Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(1807 - 1882)
Born in Portland, Massachusetts, Longfellow studied at Bowdoin College and taught at Bowdoin and Harvard College. He was the most successful American poet of his day and wrote The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The Village Blacksmith as well as a verse translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
